What kwan has been on Quarter One?

Time flew so fast, and Q1 is quickly plucking its last hair strands, prepping for that Q2 grooming (talking about gray hair. Just kidding). But yes – It’s that time of the year again, the end of the quarter, where everyone is measuring their KPI’s and dashboards. The time of reckoning. It’s exciting, it’s enticing. But only for those. Teams and individuals whose eyes is on the prize and who have worked their arsenals off day in and out to contribute and achieve the vision. So, what the kwan happened?

2017 Vision: Best in class “in-house” solutions provider

Q1: A story of adjustments and quick changes

We said we’re going to sustain. Sustain things and keep customers happy while half of the ICT team goes to a special mission called project firefly (SAP Project). I say, we did it. But how?

Things have been fast moving in terms organizational shape and I say we came and put a sauce in it, In February, we’ve established Project Phalanx: the movement to enable all the developers to lead and have ownership of ICT development related ecosystem.

First Kwan: The ICT ABS Eco-System

Figure above: the overall ICT App & BI Solutions ecosystem. How we do things.

And tangled with this, are the ecosystem we continue to build and plan to harvest until the end of the year. Yes, so far so good. The image above shows the 4 main functions of ABS group in the blue boxes. It then spurs into the green boxes (which are the committees in project phalanx). And some new “Way of things” we’ve established namely:

The 2nd“Kwans”: the valuable programs to keep the foundations

Under SMMA Committee, (Site management and marketing affairs) CIM or Critical Issues Management aims to consolidate and isolate issues that have been escalated or something that needs hyper care. These are kinds of issues that requires DIVE (yes- that ACE form we used to bury issues). We monitor this weekly and ensure that all critical issues are handled. This enables us to list down and improve on our customer relations, and at the same time, this project tests our problem-solving skills to the core.

Project Arsenal under COTS (Committee on team synergy) is the thing to handle code repository using visual SVN (Tortoise). We already had the tool last year (when I was in BI) but now, we’ve enforced to build a focused committee in this aspect to ensure we have a “release” manager controlling all patches, fixes and system deployments. This ensures that releases are managed and the versions for testing, UAT and Live programs are all segregated and organized. Plus factor here: anytime we will be audited, we have the cards to show.

BISS or BI Self Service Program under committee on dataviz operations (CODO), this seeks process improvements internally in ICT, and converts that process into an efficient self-service dashboard. Initially this is planned to run internally in ICT, but eventually, this will be implemented in CBSi. A good practice on our side on how to implement a self-service BI + actually implementing the results through self-sustaining dashboards.

Yup - you are here reading this beautiful article.

This is the monthly newsletter keeping everyone we’ve talked to about projects and ICT-ABS happenings in the loop.

To summarize the A-Z’s of the committee projects, here it is with their leaders for Quarter 1.

Okay - now we’ve given a walkthrough and re-iteration on what we’re up, here is the “kwan” number 3, the projects

Kwan number 3: The Q1 Class Card. (Highlight Reel)

Sounding flamboyant as it is, 18 closed projects for Q1 is the most I have seen from being the lone developer way back in 2009-2013, to then being the BI lead in Data and analytics in 2016. (With Master CEds Sudaria) This just explains the teamwork playing its part in the current ABS team. Everyone has been contributing and so far, I can say that no one is left behind in terms of performance. Thankful and blessed having the hardworking and skilled guys and girls in ABS!

The Q1 Class Card:

Another “W” to be proud of, last March 22, we’ve done something new that is not yet done ever since the history of in-house application development. We’ve rebuilt the last year remnants for CDI barcoding, create something fresh and new, and deployed our first application in CDI.

Image above: The CDI Barcoding Project Team pose after the deployment (Right: the actual Label)

CDI Barcode printing automates the PO handling and label printing of ref specs, cabinet modules and thermal labels of Kelvinator and Condura Refrigerators.

We are also on-track on closing projects like RDS CMIP Application (On-going), the RDS Executive Reports & DR Uploading which are all for UAT at the moment.

So what’s up for Q2?

Quarter number two: the focus will be more on workflow projects developed in K2 (software tool) + SharePoint collaboration suite. Based on our current production schedule, there will also be a lot of Dashboard across SBU’s that will be unleashed!

See you then!
