Side Track Music Review - March

I always dreamt of sharing music reviews with everyone ever since being a musician in my other life outside of I.T.. Good thing ABSTrack have one extra space to have a “side article” outside work for me to have this. Here you go, sharing to you “Mainstay list” - my latest most overplayed albums in my music playlist for 2017 quarter one:

Weezer (Weezer / Blue Album, 1994) – If you’re a 90’s kid like me, and into alternative rock bands, you’ve probably listened to weezer. Their songs like “Say it ain’t so” and their remade of “Undone – sweater song” are anthems of kids growing up to their teenage life of the 90’S generation. Currently, their songs are one of the overplayed tunes in my car and my band sometimes cover their songs during fun-time-rehearsals. Good old days!

Moonwlk (20Twelve, 2012) – I discovered moonwlk late in 2012 where I watched them performed live in Alabang town center, and Immediately got hooked to their pop flavourish electronic songs. They are one of those unique indie acts that I look forward in seeing live every time, whether they do it full band or as electric duo. That time, I immediately purchased their album and they have been constant on my playlist since then. I’ve always dreamed of having a “duo” ever since and they have been one of the main inspirations why I still have it on my bucket list. Haha. My band also shared the stage with them on one of our gigs last 2013. I like all their tracks but the “6 of 7” and “Irish” are my favorites. Check them out!

The Beatles (Abbey Road, 1969) – Abby road is favorite Beatles album among the rest (although I love them all) and I consider my old trusted reliable leaning shoulder to lean on during laid back times and good times. There are lots of new music out there but this is a constant. My favorite tracks are “I want you (She’s so heavy)” and “Something” – probably in my taste, the best sounds, arrangement and lyricism in terms of those rock love songs ahead of their generations. And In case you asked why the beatles? Because the Beatles!

Arctic Monkeys (AM, 2013) – The fifth studio album of arctic monkeys. I’ve been a late bloomer on their music because I got hooked up just around 2012. But hey, Right now, I would be picking them to be my most favorite English foreign active act. I liked how they’ve transitioned their indie-riff driven sound to a groovier, laid back garagesque stuff. I have all of their albums and I guess I’m on to whatever they release. Listen to “Why’d you only call me when you’re high”, “Do I wanna Know”.

Orange and Lemons (Moonlane Gardens, 2007) – I bought their album on sale in SM Bicutan last 2010 and I got it for only a hundred pesos (too cheap for one of the great OPM bands). I’ve been a fan since college days and upon hearing the tracks, it became an instant favorite. This album is sadly their last, and in my judgement, this album is their most mature studio work comparing to their previous albums pertaining to lyricism, arrangement effort and plus the other production sounds you can hear like the string and double tracked vocal blending. Clementine has really shown his songwriting prowess emphasized in some songs. (and he sounded like a girl!). My most favorite tracks are: “It’s about time” and Fade. Do a throwback and try to listen to them.

Carpenters (Carpenters, 1971) – I’ve been listening to carpenters ever since I’m in the womb of my mother. Haha. Seriously, this is the music that I can’t outgrow, given that (1) Karen’s godly basement vocals (2) Richard’s lyricism and arrangement. + These are the tunes that made my childhood complete. My mother was a huge carpenters fan. So am I. Favorite tracks: “Rainy days and Mondays” and “For all we know”

Until the next review!
